Coastal District Awards

Coastal District held their annual awards banquet 23 January, 2011, for outstanding work that volunteers performed in 2010 for Scouting. Sister Alisa Rasmussen recieved the unit Spark Plug Award where she was instrumental in providing the "Spark" that helped make Troop 699 Flag Fundraiser successful. Her efforts enabled sixteen Scouts from Troop 699 to attend Summer Camp for the second year in a row at El Rancho Cima.

Brother David Dickamore was awarded the Coastal Districts Lighthouse Award. This is a local District award. As Scoutmaster, Brother Dickamore has served as a "shining” example of the principles of scouting, through his exemplary support of the BSA program.

Philmont 2012

WHOOOHOOOO!!!! WE GOT INTO PHILMONT 2012!!!
So I guess now it begins - we can see which boys are interested in making the commitment to pay approx $1000 on their own or sell 35 flags to cover the cost of transportation and the 2 week camp- I will try and get a leader from the council to come and give us a presentation and more information for boys and parents in early January. I am very excited that we got in!
Our first $100 Philmont deposit for each person will be due by February 20, 2011 (and remember scout camp money for next summer is due $100 by March 1.) So parents need to be ready-

Eagle Court of Honor

On 31 October, 2010, at the Friendswood Stake Center, Troop 699 held an Eagle Court of Honor for their newest Eagle Scout. Congratulations Riley Rasmussen! The Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank in Scouting; the last major step in the advancement program.
Fewer than 5 percent of all Scouts in the United States reach it.
To earn the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Although many options are available to demonstrate proficiency in these areas, a number of specific skills are required to advance through the ranks of Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Star, Life and finally Eagle.
Riley has worked hard to earn this badge. Since he was 8 as a cub scout and then 11 as a Boy Scout he has attended nearly every scout meeting, activity, and campout. He loves the outdoor activities. He has always shown a positive attitude and has loved being with other scouts and great leaders. Riley has especially loved learning new things through working on merit badges, which shows on his sash – he earned 31 merit badges, 10 more than are required to earn the eagle rank. A large service project is also required and Riley was happy to lead the building of three picnic tables for his sisters’ elementary school, Gilmore. His fellow scouts, leaders, and family-even his sisters, helped on the project. Earning the rank of eagle requires that a boy live the scout oath, law and follow a trail of learning, faith and service. Riley has traveled this path well.
